COIMBATORE: K SenthilMallar, author of the banned Tamil book 'MeendezhumPandiyarVaralaru', said here on Sunday that 99.99% of his work was based on historical evidences and the rest on resources created by renowned historians like JH Nelson and W Francis.
"Even though the government claims that my work contains 'false and distorted facts', so far none including the government authorities has proved it with evidence," SenthilMallar told TOI.
In an interview, he said that he will welcome those who have relevant evidence to prove his work wrong and pointed out that if any section of the Tamils lay claim that they are the original descendants of Pandya dynasty with supportive evidence, he would accept it.
The author who refused to be called as dalit also demanded the government not only to revoke the ban but also accept the facts mentioned in the book after verifying it and withdraw cases against him.
"I am a researcher and writer without any casteist tendencies and not a single point mentioned in the book are my personal views." he said.
"History cannot be written to appease majority or minority. History is based on evidences and documents until it is proved otherwise," he contended.
Senthil Mallar also pointed out that it is astonishing that the state government has banned his work while there are many other works that abuse Mallars.
"Government has claimed that the book is abusing but even the so-called abused has so far never contended the views with evidence," he noted and charged that only politicians are twisting the history to appease a few communities.
On his political views, he said that he is basically a Tamil nationalist working with fellow leaders for creation of Tamil rule in the state.
During the interview, he also spoke against the usage of terms such as dalit or harijan as they are discriminatory.
"Our claim is that we are the real descendants of Pandya dynasty and hence we are the real Tamils. If others prove it with evidence then they are our brethren," he said and noted that they are not claiming any caste to be superior or inferior to others.
Senthil Mallar has made his first public appearance after he was granted anticipatory bail in the sedition case.
He was here to participate in a conference against the ban imposed on his book. The state government invoked section 95 1 (a) of the Criminal Procedure Code and banned the book vide a Government Order on May 30 this year.
